Success for Hughes in five top business awards
07-11-2011
Hughes Safety Showers has been named a regional finalist in three national business awards and a finalist in the Manchester Evening News (MEN) Business of the Year Award and the International Trade Awards sponsored by Santander Corporate Banking. The finals recognise the success of exporters and the way in which they have developed new opportunities overseas. The MEN award celebrates the best of the best in the regional business community.
The Company is a regional finalist in the prestigious HSBC Business Thinking initiative which is designed to find and reward the UK's best business thinkers. Managing Director Tony Hughes will be joining other successful regional finalists on what the bank calls a ‘Thought Exchange’ trip to New York, where they will have the opportunity to meet business leaders and explore opportunities for international trade. On their return, and after presenting to the judging panel, two winners from each region will be selected to compete in London for the title of UK Business Thinker 2011.

Hughes is also a regional finalist in the Future Manufacturing Awards organised by the EEF (formerly the Engineering Employers Federation), an association that supports and promotes UK manufacturers. The Company has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Export category which recognises manufacturers that are exploiting new markets and winning new business abroad. This new award, which has been launched in partnership with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), includes regional heats that culminate in a National Final in January 2012 to select the UK’s most outstanding export manufacturer.
The 2011 Insider International Trade Awards is a new award launched by the Insider Media Group to celebrate the success of companies involved with overseas trade. Hughes is a finalist in the Manufacturing/Engineering category and Tony Hughes has been shortlisted for the Business Person of the Year Award.
The Company has also been named a regional finalist in the International Trade Awards sponsored by Santander Corporate Banking. Now in its fourth year, the awards recognise the import and export achievements of UK companies.
Completing the five is the nomination for the Manchester Evening News Business of the Year Award in the £10 million to £25 million turnover category. This is an annual award celebrating the best of the best in the regional business community and Hughes has reached the finals.
“Reaching the final stages of five major awards is obviously a great achievement,” says Tony Hughes. “But the benefit is not simply winning a title. The process of entering the awards encourages us to look closely at every aspect of our business and ensure it’s working efficiently and effectively. It’s just another way of helping us to stay on top of our game – with the bonus of a prestigious award for getting it right.”
