A recent order for tank showers won by Hughes Middle East highlights the company’s ability to customize products to suit specific applications and working environments. Contractor J Ray McDermott in Dubai has ordered nine 1200 litre tank showers for three drilling platforms, which form part of the Qatar Gas Project. The off-shore location and high ambient daytime temperature posed a particular challenge for Hughes engineers.
Their solution was to fit a unique recirculating chiller system, which uses the lower night time temperatures to maintain the tank water at a safe temperature during the day. The chillers are specifically designed for use in hazardous areas and have a smaller footprint than conventional flameproof models – critical in this type of installation where space is limited. With fewer components and the use of low maintenance technology, these new tank showers offer a cost-effective alternative.

Africa is a relatively new market for Hughes but one that offers significant opportunities. This was demonstrated recently by our new Nigerian distributor, Bumhat Consulting. Within a week of being appointed, they won an order for 55 unheated self-draining showers and eyebath/facewash units from Exxon Mobil. Our experience within the global oil and petrochemical industry means that we can always provide the most effective safety solution.
