Feeding his passion for speed, Hughes MD Tony Hughes is now threatening to take on the likes of Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso.

Well, perhaps not just yet but he is taking up the challenge of the Texaco Havoline Ginetta Championship. Sponsorred by Hughes Safety Showers, Tony is racing with Speedworks Motorsport in what is said to be one of the most successful one-make sportscar championships in the world.
Since 2004 it’s been on the British Formula 3 Championship support bill and features regularly on Sky Sports.

Tony is driving a 1.8-litre Ford Zetec-engined Ginetta G20, and is up against identical cars driven by other enthusiasts. During the year, he will be competing at some of the most prestigious venues in Europe, including Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Donington Park and Spa-Francorchamps.

Making his debut at Oulton Park on Easter Monday, Tony survived a treacherous rain soaked track to finish 19th and claim two championship points. He started at the back of the field after finishing 10th in the qualifying heat. ‘On reflection, it was the best place to be,’ says Tony. ’I passed a few on the first lap but one by one, the guys in front started to lose control in the rain. Many were more experienced than me so my main aim, first time out, was to finish in one piece.’
